Roma leader files complaint against police

Belgrade, February 09 (Source: B92) - Roma’s Democratic Union president Jordan Vasić has announced he will sue the state and the interior ministry.

The reason for his decision lies in the alleged failure of police (MUP) officers to react while Vasić and others travelling with him were assaulted.

Vasić and his wife were attacked physically and verbally by a group of people while two police officers reportedly stood by and watched the incident without intervening.

He stressed that the criminal complaint about to be filed will be filed against both the state of Serbia and the MUP, rather than against any individual, as he does not see the behavior of individuals as the heart of the problem.

“This is a problem for the police force, as they have employees who react in this way. Whether they choose to or are instructed to do so, that’s up to the MUP to find out”, Vasić told journalists.

“When we asked the police officers to protect us, they laughed and said we could call Nataša Kandić”, Vasić concluded.
