Carla Del Ponte to step down in September

The Hague, January 31 (Source: B92) - Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor to leave office in September.

“I plan to step down from the Chief Prosecutor’s office, the post I’ve occupied for eight years. I wish to see Ratko Mladić and Radovan Karadžić behind bars in the Hague by that time, and I’ll work on it. I hope to leave my office satisfied and not frustrated”, Carla Del Ponte told foreign correspondents reporting from The Hague.

Del Ponte pointed out that she occupied the position of the Chief Prosecutor a lot longer than her predecessors, adding this was the main reason for her decision to step down.

Del Ponte remarked that Swiss officials expect she returns home, since high costs of her office have become an issue in Switzerland that actually incurs the costs.

The Swiss Justice Minister demanded that she resign immediately after Slobodan Milošević died, Carla Del Ponte explained.
