Prosecution receives Scorpions ruling
Belgrade, September 14 (Source: B92) - The prosecution has received a dispatch, containing an explanation of the rulings in the Scorpions case.
The matter relates to the rulings in the trial of members of the Scorpions paramilitary unit who were accused and convicted of the murders of six Muslim civilians from Srebrenica, in the village of Trnovo, Bosnia, in 1995.
The War Crimes Prosecution has deemed the rulings problematic not only because of the length of the sentences and the acquittal of one member, but also because of the rationale behind the decisions.
It took the presiding judge, Gordana Bozilović-Petrović, over five months to write the dispatch.
Having received the document, covering 120 pages, the prosecution is now preparing its appeal.
On April 10, Slobodan and Branislav Medić were found guilty and sentenced to the maximum custodial term of 20 years imprisonment; Pero Petrašević, the only one to plead guilty, received 13 years; Aleksandar Medić was sentenced to five years, while Aleksandar Vukov was acquitted.
