“Mladić in Serbia, Karadžić maybe”

Sarajevo, September 28 (Source: B92) - Carla Del Ponte maintains that Ratko Mladić is in Serbia, and that Radovan Karadžić is “in the region.” By “in the region”, the Hague chief prosecutor suggested that he was either in Serbia, Montenegro or the Republic of Srpska.

Del Ponte told Sarajevo daily Dnevni Avaz that the international community had not done enough in its efforts to arrest Mladić and Karadžić, “which cannot be an excuse for Serbia and other countries in the region for not arresting them today.” According to the daily, Del Ponte has increased the diplomatic pressure in Brussels to prevent Serbia from signing any agreement with the EU until it extradites all the Hague fugitives.

She claimed that Serbian authorities had access to both Goran Hadžić and Stojan Župljanin. Del Ponte’s mandate as chief prosecutor expires on December 21, after which she will become Swiss ambassador to Argentina. She reiterated that in the last 14 years, 91 indictees had been extradited to The Hague, adding that the Hague Tribunal was under attack from “those who denied everything that had taken place during the wars on the territory of the former Yugoslavia, as well as those who stand in the way of justice.” Del Ponte said that she would publish a book of her memoirs as well..
